This Friday – Herndon Football will host South Lakes in the Baron Cameron Bowl at 7:00 pm. The Hornets are coached by our own Mr. Dan Coghlan. This will be our senior night for Cheer, Dance, Marching Band and Football. Our football team stands at 3-1 in conference play. Our rival, South Lakes stands at 4-0……….. This game is for all the marbles! Herndon’s JV Football team has an impressive 6-2 record and are led by none other than Kenny Ferrer (HHS Security Staff).

X-Country – Our boys repeated as the Liberty District Champions! Colin McCauley was the over-all district champion. Liban Hanfi finished in the top 5 at Districts. The team will compete in the Reginal Championships tomorrow at Burke Lake. Our girls team each earned a personal best time on championship day as well! Senior Abla Samrhouni advances to the Regional Championships tomorrow at Burke Lake. The team is coached by HHS Health and PE Teacher – Jason Polaha.
Cheer – Our cheer team excelled again this season! Their competition performance at districts earned them a spot at the Regional Championships where they turned in another solid showing. They continue to cheer on our football teams and we will celebrate their seniors tomorrow, prior to the football game vs. South Lakes. The team is coached by Jelaire Grillo.
Golf – Ann Sofo (Senior) was our top female golfer and Nick Caggiano (Freshman) finished as our top boy golfer and advanced to Regional Play, finishing in the top 50 in the Region. Our team boasted a roster of 17 participants! The team is coached by Herndon Grad (’97) – Mark Rueffert.
Field Hockey : Our team had an amazing season, with 14 wins vs. 6 losses. We advanced to the District Semi-Finals and the Regional Quarter Finals. At one point, the Hornets won 10 games straight! They also beat South Lakes three times! Our team is coached by Mary Miller (Long Term Substitute this year in Health and PE).
Volleyball : An exciting group of players who have been in every match. Recently defeated Yorktown HS in the District Tourney to advance to the Region Tournament, where they defeated Marshall HS last night, 3-2. We’ll play tomorrow at Westfield HS vs. the Bulldogs at 6:30 pm in the quarter finals of the Region. The Hornets are coached by Vladimir Jelic.
Our Marching Band and Dance teams continue to practice and prepare for their State Assessments, Competition Schedules and half time performances. They are considered amongst the top performance groups in the state of Virginia.
It’s an exciting time to be a Hornet! Our student-athletes compete at a high level and are involved in a meaningful experience. They represent us well.
