PSAT Testing Information

The PSAT is a practice examination for the college entrance exam known as the SAT Reasoning Test. It measures critical thinking skills that are important for success in college, including critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills. Taking the PSAT/NMSQT enables our students to get feedback about critical academic skills, seek information from colleges, enter scholarship competitions, practice for the SAT Reasoning Test, and initiate the college-planning process.

PSAT Registration

To help the school prepare for testing, students are asked to complete the form below by Friday, October 9, 2020. This form asks about participation in the test, the need or bus transportation, and interest in free breakfast or lunch on the day of the test.

PSAT/NMSQT Intent to Participate Form

Students, who wish to complete the test, need to log into their FCPS Google school account (@fcpsschools.net). We ask parents/guardians and siblings, who may also have a FCPS Google school account to not complete the intent form using their account.

A translated version of the form content may be found on the PSAT/NMSQT Intent webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/42099). Due to health and safety protocols, FCPS sites cannot accept walk-ins on the day of the exam.

General information about the PSAT/NMSQT test format is available on the College Board webpage (https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10). Thursday, October 29, 2020 has been designated for asynchronous learning in FCPS high schools, so students who choose to take the PSAT/NMSQT will not miss synchronous learning time with their teachers.

We will share more details about test day schedules and bus transportation in the coming weeks. Students are encouraged to regularly check their FCPS Google school email for more information. FCPS health and safety protocols for PSAT/NMSQT administration are available online (https://www.fcps.edu/node/41891).

If you have questions about the PSAT/NMSQT administration at Herndon High School or if you are a homeschooled student interested in completing the PSAT, please contact Alisa Shreve at @email.
