School Innovation & Improvement Plan

Outcome goals for this academic school year

The School Improvement Plan is a working document that is created by staff members to support Herndon and FCPS Goals.

SMARTR Goal 1: By the end of 2020-2021 School year, ESOL Level 1 students in the Strategies 1 class will demonstrate increased knowledge with technology for academic purposes, leading to increased engagement as measured by quarterly surveys. 

Strategy 1

School staff will work on a student level to ensure that ELP Level 1 students in the Strategies 1 class will have access to personalized support.

Strategy 2

School staff will provide resources and develop systems to guide students and parents through the use of technology in order to increase comfort and knowledge.

SMARTR Goal 2: By the end of the 2020-21 school year, Herndon High School’s dropout rate will be reduced by 10%.

School staff will work on a student level to ensure that students have access to personalized support.

Strategy 2

School staff will work collaboratively to analyze data and develop systems in order to identify students at risk of dropping out as early as possible and ensure a smooth transition to alternative education programs.

SMARTR Goal 3: By the end of the 2020-21 school year, Herndon High School’s chronic attendance rate will be reduced by 10%.

Strategy 1

School staff will focus on Tier 1, 2, and 3 attendance strategies to impact overall student attendance.

School staff will work on a student level to ensure that students have access to personalized support.

SMARTR Goal 4: By the end of the 2020-21 school year, Herndon High School’s Graduation and Completion Index will increase by 2.5%.

School staff will work on a student level to ensure that students have access to personalized support.

Strategy 2

School staff will work collaboratively to analyze data and develop systems in order to identify students at risk of not graduating on time as early as possible and put graduation plans in place.
