Beliefs

School and Community

  • Herndon High School is a four-year, fully accredited public school that serves approximately 2200 students from the Herndon, Reston and Great Falls area.  It is located in a residential suburb three miles from Washington/Dulles International Airport and numerous technology centers. Herndon is on an Alternate A/B schedule that offers students 90 minute academic periods and allows time for teacher advisory and intervention/enrichment.  Herndon’s extra-curricular programs provide extensive opportunities for students to participate in athletics, performing arts, honor societies, community service and general interest clubs.

PBIS - Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is part of the FCPS Positive Behavior Approach. It is a decision making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based academic and behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavior outcomes for all students (www.pbis.org).

  • Herndon High School has created Hornet P.R.I.D.E. (Participation, Respect, Integrity, Diligence, and Empathy) to guide our expectations in our classrooms and in our community. Students will be taught lessons pertaining to Kids at Hope and what Herndon P.R.I.D.E. behaviors mean and what they look like in our school and in our community. Teachers will acknowledge students with tickets when students are displaying positive examples of Hornet P.R.I.D.E. and students will enter tickets into weekly drawings for incentives and prizes. A student teacher advisory committee will be formed so that students and teachers can work together and build positive meaningful relationships that support the entire Herndon community.
